devil's night / 7:05 pm EST

About to head out the door to a very spooky, Devil’s Night themed sleep study. Apparently the sleep study room has a TV, which is exciting to me even though I have my own TV at home.

A great but crazy month. Fell and bruised up my hip real good but everything ended up being a-okay! Went to only one concert (Geese, a band I hadn’t listened to before) and spent the whole night dancing with my boyfriend.

Went to Chicago which was much fun! We had a great time, and I was happy I got to visit all my favorite spots (Kasama, Merz Apothecary, and Atlas Stationers). Plus we took the train there, back, and all around town. Was talking with my roommate recently about just how different it feels to be in a place where there’s public transit and corner stores.

Where I’m at right now is still holding on to that, especially compared to the big, unnamed college town down the way where you have to drive to get anything you need, or otherwise wait for a bus to come every thirty minutes. I love my little city, but I never drive, and the time tax of public transit is starting to wear on me.

Fresh off the heels of submitting my first couple of poems to a magazine at school! It’s a baby step and I’m definitely not Poetry Foundation material, but hopefully someday I’ll be another Lucie Brock-Broido (though who could ever?!?). Just doing my own weird things to the English language, no fucks given.

Otherwise about to start on a massive research project for my American Studies final. I’m very excited to get the ball rolling and start sharing some of my work and thoughts here, too.

Best things this month: New non-slip Crocs (they have lighting printed on them, very cool), riding sooooo many trains, two apple orchard dates, delicious perfumes and great-smelling leather, some very good baseball games to be had

Not-so-great things this month: No Tigers in the World Series (it was a long shot, I know), finding out that learning Spanish is actually really hard if you can believe it, falling on my ass at work and still having a bruise weeks later

I’d say being tired, too, but is that even a surprise at this point? About to go catch some z’s and some answers (let’s hope!)

Sayonara for now,
Julian
